Oregonians with the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will soon have more funds to work with at mealtime. Monthly SNAP benefits will be permanently increased in October.
The increase equates to about $36 per month, per person. Current SNAP recipients will also continue to receive additional pandemic relief *emergency benefits for October.
Oregon Department of Human Services spokesperson Jake Sunderland said, “these extra emergency benefits will equal approximately $64 million dollars in extra food benefits for approximately 408,000 SNAP households.”
This permanent raise in benefits is the result of federal changes to the Thrifty Food Plan. SNAP recipients don’t have to take any action to receive these benefits. They will be issued directly on their EBT cards. New SNAP households will receive emergency allotments in October or November.
