Three Lane County school districts announce winter sports COVID-19 protocols

Markus Spiske

Three local school districts are enacting safety measures for winter athletic events, to limit the spread of COVID-19.

Eugene, Bethel and Springfield school athletic directors have agreed to several health protocols at events beginning Monday, Jan. 10. Spectators will be limited, tickets will be required, and no concessions will be served or allowed. Mask protocols and hand sanitization will also be required.

In a joint release from the three districts, the schools say the decisions were made in adherence with local and state public health guidelines. They add that the districts will revisit protocols with the expectation of lifting restrictions as case rates decline.
