The Eugene City Council pressed the pause button Monday night on taking down City Hall.

Demolition  began ceremoniously last week.  The City Council had agreed earlier to replace it with a new, smaller building. But Monday night the council voted six to two to hold off taking the old City Hall down until September 24th, when the council plans further discussion. The decision places the future of city halls, old and new, once more in limbo. Earlier, the Council had endorsed plans to construct a new 15 million dollar City Hall on the northwest corner of Eighth and Pearl.  The meeting September 24th was originally scheduled to update councilors on the status of plans for the new 25-thousand square foot building.
