About 200 people packed Springfield’s Wildish Theater Tuesday evening to hear Mayor Christine Lundberg deliver her 5th “State of the City” address.
Mayor Lundberg began her speech by turning on a street lamp on the stage. This was to bring attention to the revitalization of downtown Springfield. The city is continuing to invest in infrastructure projects such as updated street lamps. Lundberg introduced a video highlighting the creation of its new Simpsons mural, which was unveiled last August. And she revealed a new project set to begin this year.
Lundberg: “It is my pleasure to announce the our next mural project, an author, who lived his life a little closer to our home. In fact his classmates at Springfield High School voted him most likely to succeed. It is my pleasure to announce our 2015 City Art Project is the Ken Kesey Mural.”
Mayor Lundberg emphasized continued work on the remodel at Gateway Mall and future development plans in Glenwood. She highlighted adding hours to the library, and hinted the current facility may need to be remodeled or rebuilt soon. Lundberg also credited the success of combining of Springfield and Eugene’s Fire Department’s, which saved more than a million dollars.
