Beginning Monday Lane County will have a new District Attorney. It’s the first time the job will be held by a woman.

Oregon Governor Kate Brown appointed Patty Perlow as Lane County DA. The 52-year-old is filling the vacancy left by Alex Gardner. His new job is with the Oregon State Police as Director of the Forensic Services Division.

Perlow has been a prosecutor in the Lane County DA's Office since 1990, most recently serving as its Chief Deputy under Gardner.

She has worked on the office’s Major Crimes Team which specializes in violent crimes. She has also been the attorney advisor to INET, the local interagency drug team.

Perlow will fill the remainder of Gardner's term as District Attorney until next year's election. She has expressed interest in running for the office.

Early in her career, Perlow clerked for Lane County Circuit Court Judge Kip Leonard.

She earned her undergraduate and law degrees at the University of Oregon. She was admitted to the Oregon State Bar in 1989.
