A Eugene police officer is facing charges for assaulting an inmate at the Lane County Jail.
The misdemeanor charges stem from an incident in September of 2014, and were filed against officer John Sharlow, a 14 year veteran of the Eugene Police Department. According to EPD, the incident was investigated and turned over to the Lane County District Attorney’s Office. In order to avoid any conflict of interest, the case was transferred to Linn County for prosecution. The charges against the inmate at the center of the case were dropped, but he has informed the City of Eugene he intends to file a lawsuit. Officer Sharlow has been on administrative leave since March of this year.
