The City of Eugene is wants to require out-of-town rental owners to have a local agent to be contacted in case of emergency.
City spokeswoman Laura Hammond says Eugene is trying to improve neighborhood livability. The regulationis meant to make it easier for city officials and police if there are issues with a local rental property.
Hammond: "We've had problems with folks moving in to an abandoned house while we were trying to contact a property owner. So, that has a significant impact on the neighborhood and we want to make sure that we have someone who can come in and deal with that problem."
Hammond says the agent can be a neighbor or friend or a local property manager.
The Lane County Rental Owners Association has expressed concern about the rule. The city is taking public comment until Monday November 9th. The City Manager has authority to enact the regulation with a signature.
