Vermont Senator and Democratic Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders delivered a wide ranging speech Thursday at a rally in Springfield. The campaign says a crowd of 8-thousand people showed up at an Island Park.

Sanders focused on issues of income inequality and attacked Republicans for being out of touch with everyday people. He talked briefly about Oregon. He cited the number of youth living in poverty.
“Nearly 20 thousand public school students under the age of 18 are homeless in Oregon. And that a quarter of the children in this great state live in households without adequate access to food.”
Sanders got big cheers when he talked about climate change and vowed to take on the fossil fuel industry. He asked Oregonians to vote in the May 17th primary. Sanders said when voter turnout is high, he does well.
