Recent abortion bans and restrictions in states like Alabama have fired up reproductive rights advocates across the U.S. As KLCC’s Brian Bull reports, activists in Eugene took part in protests today.
Hundreds gathered at the federal courthouse to hear speakers denounce what they see as a coordinated and unprecedented attack on abortion access nationwide. Among them was Lisa Gardner, CEO of Planned Parenthood of Southwestern Oregon.
“Planned Parenthood is never going to stop fighting for our patients (CHEERS), we are never going to stop fighting for women, we are never going to stop fighting for human rights, and we are never going to stop fighting for the right to access safe and legal abortion."
Protester Susan Wiget arrived in a red and white dress, as shown in the TV series, “The Handmaid’s Tale” where women are property in a male-dominated dystopia. She doesn’t want that to become reality.
“People need to be able to have safe and legal abortions, no matter what their income is or where they live.”
Other rallies were held nationwide as part of a “Stop the Bans” campaign.
