Oregon Republicans To Boycott Over Climate Change Legislation

Rachael McDonald

Republicans in the Oregon Senate say they will boycott the legislature to deny Democrats a vote on climate change legislation.

Senate Republicans announced plans to leave today/MONDAY after the Joint Ways and Means Committee refused to send the policy known as cap and trade to voters.

Senate President Peter Courtney joined the committee to cast a yes vote to send Senate Bill 1530 to the full Senate. Republicans say that was unfair.

Senate Bill 1530 would attempt to fight global warming by capping greenhouse gas emissions in Oregon and charging polluters. A similar bill died in the legislature last year after another Republican walkout.
