Springfield Mayor Christine Lundberg Steps Down

City of Springfield

Springfield Mayor Christine Lundberg announced Saturday that she’s stepping down, effective immediately. The announcement came in a news release from the city.

In the release, Lundberg said, “I make this decision with a heavy heart. The role of mayor has been an enormous honor. Springfield is such a wonderful community. I have always felt blessed to serve as your mayor.”

The release does not give a reason, though in a letterto the city council Lundberg said she needs to take time for herself and her family.

The Springfield City Council will appoint a new mayor at a future city council meeting.

Lundberg is the city’s 37th mayor. She has served in that position since December of 2010.
