Rules for hunting in Oregon state parks will be reviewed and clarified, in a virtual meeting organized by the state Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) November 18 beginning at 8:30am.
Helena Kesch is the department’s ADA Coordinator Policy Analyst. She told KLCC that hunting has been allowed for years in Oregon’s parks, but sometimes there’s confusion.
“We just wanted to be clear on the direction of where hunting can happen in those state park properties," said Kesch. "We’re going to create a hunting map that will point to the boundaries of the state parks, which areas people can actually hunt. Whether that be parts of Fort Stevens at the coast, along the Willamette River Greenway, or eastern Oregon. Also talk about what could be hunted based to ODFW’s rules and regulations.”
The Rule Advisory Committee meeting can be viewed on a livestream, with a public comment period after the review.
OPRD appointed members to the advisory committee. Members include representatives of the hunting community, conservationists and officials from ODFW and Oregon State Police Fish and Wildlife Division.
Individuals who require special accommodations to view the meetings should contact Kesch at least three days in advance of the meeting at helena.kesch@oregon.gov or 503-881-4637.
