This summer, elite young athletes from more than 200 countries will come to Hayward Field in Eugene to compete in a six day Track & Field event. TrackTown USA President Vin Lananna Wednesday announced a challenge for local youth.

For the first time ever, the International Association of Athletics Federation World Junior Championships will be held in the United States. 22 hundred athletes, coaches and officials from 200 countries are expected at Hayward Field July 22 through 27th.  . TrackTown USA President Vin Lananna challenged local youth 12 and under to run a mile.

Lananna: "If they go out and run the mile, get a signature from their parent that they've done that, it's more or less an honor code, what they will do is they'll be given a free ticket to the World Juniors for that young girl or by who runs and for the parent to come to the meet."

The single-day tickets are for the first 200 mile-runners who submit a form. The World Junior Championships is the latest big Track and Field event to be added to Hayward Field's schedule. The US Olympic Trials will be held there for a 3rd time in 2016.
