The Oregon Country Fair is this weekend in Veneta and Lane county sheriff’s office is mobilizing their traffic control to deal with the massive expected crowds.
Sergeant Steve Sieczkowski says the last estimate for expected fairgoers was 50-thousand people. They are ramping up their DUII, seatbelt, and distracted driving enforcement. And they are reducing the speed on Suttle road, which goes to the fair, to 25 miles per hour.
Sieczkowski reminds people that, with these huge crowds, driving safely should be a priority.
“I would encourage everybody to make sure that they follow the rules and pay attention to what they’re doing when they’re driving through here,” says Sieczkowski. “There are a lot of people here so we really want to make sure they’re safe.”
Eugene and Springfield police departments as well as the Oregon state police will also be assisting in traffic control.
