A 26-year-old man killed by police on a remote Five Rivers farm during a December manhunt shot at an Oregon State Police trooper after mistakenly thinking the officer was the man who had killed his friend hours earlier.

A team of police investigators from Lane County is trying to sort out two shooting deaths Thursday night and Friday on a remote farm deep in the foothills of the Oregon Coast Range.

Police said they shot and killed a person during a dispute in rural northwest Lane County Thursday evening. Another person was arrested for 2nd Degree murder in the case.

The Lane County Sheriff’s office says a second search warrant in the case involving a Springfield man suspected of running an illegal gun manufacturing operation has turned up more guns and gun-making supplies.

Former Lane County Sheriff Tom Turner will be honored during a memorial service Tuesday.

Turner served as Florence Police Chief since 2015. He had just announced his retirement effective last Friday May 6th.
