First Responders Receive Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine In Lane County

Eugene Springfield Fire

Last week, Eugene/Springfield Fire received its first shipment of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. They got 1,000 doses. Acting Fire Chief Chris Heppel said they immediately began administering shots to first responders.

“We’re often the first point of contact for people needing medical treatment,” he said. “Whether they have COVID related symptoms or not, these vaccines will help ensure our staff are protected and will slow the spread of the virus throughout Lane County.”

Acting Eugene Springfield Fire Chief Chris Heppel says his department is fortunate to have enough COVIDD-19 vaccine to protect first responders.

Heppel said some of the vaccines went to Eugene and Springfield Police departments and Lane Fire Authority. They’ve administered about 700 of the doses with plans to get the rest in the arms of first responders on a quick timeline. Then they will stand ready to distribute the second round of vaccine starting at the end of January.
