Officials in Marion County will launch a mass vaccination clinic Thursday, Jan. 7 at the Oregon State Fairgrounds in Salem.
Oregon Gov. Kate Brown has set a goal of administering 12,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine a day by January 15. Salem Health CEO Cheryl Wolfe said the fairgrounds clinic could go a long way toward reaching that number.
“We think a thousand is very doable a day, but it may be many more than that,” she said.
Marion County Board Chair Kevin Cameron said the county thinks it can use the clinic as a model for other locations.
“We don’t want vaccines sitting on the shelf," he said. "So we will move as quickly as possible.”
For now, the vaccines are primarily meant for health care workers, employees and residents of long-term care facilities, and first responders
