A former fire chief is announcing his bid for Eugene City Council, Ward 8.

60-year-old Randy Groves is currently on the city’s budget committee, and says he’d like to address climate change, homelessness, community safety, and economic development if elected.  He says he’s proud of his decades of work as a fire official.

“Probably one of the signature accomplishments was the work we did to merge the Eugene and Springfield Fire Departments, which produced a better level of service, more surge capacity, while at the same time saving significant money.”

Groves is married with two children.  He’s an alum of the University of Oregon, and former vice president of the International Association of Firefighters.

The primary election will be held May 2020.  Another citizen member of the city budget committee, Ryan Moore, has announced his candidacy for Ward 8.

Incumbent council member Chris Pryor is not seeking re-election.
