A citizen member of Eugene’s budget committee and former legislative aide to State Representative John Lively has officially kicked off his bid for Eugene City Council, Ward 8.
31-year-old Ryan Moore studied political science at the University of Oregon, and volunteers with the Democratic Party of Lane County. He says if elected, he’ll tackle several problems, starting with homelessness.
"What we’re doing right now isn’t working," he tells KLCC. "We’re cycling people in and out of jail. And it’s not solving anything. And it’s just getting worse.
"Climate change. Eugene has had a lot of trouble meeting its goals, and staying on track with those. I’ll bring a renewed urgency to that, and help us move forward.”
Moore adds as a millennial, he’ll bring his generation’s concerns to the table and be an accessible and engaged city council member.
The current Ward 8 council member, Chris Pryor, recently told the Register Guard that he doesn’t plan on running again.
The primary election will be held in May 2020.
