Oregon Governor Kate Brown rode a rapid transit bus from Springfield to Eugene Monday. She wants to build support for transportation funding in the state.

Brown took Lane Transit District’s EmX bus with officials from Eugene and Springfield. She says the rapid transit model will fit many communities in Oregon. Brown wants to invest in transportation in the next legislative session.

“That will meet the needs of Oregon. Both our seismic retrofit needs as well as improving modernization and reducing congestion. Part of that piece is obviously figuring out what we need to do around transit.
Brown says there’s not yet a pricetag attached to a potential transportation package. Emx buses currently run through Eugene and Springfield with college students among the majority of riders.
LTD is building a 5 mile addition to its EmX system in West Eugene that’s expected to be complete in Fall 2017.
