Tomorrow on Capitol Hill, Congress will meet to…taste beer.  And Eugene will represent, with Sam Bond’s Brewing offering four of its beers to lawmakers.  KLCC’s Brian Bull has more.

Sam Bond’s head brewer and co-owner Jim Montgomery says only 29 breweries nationwide will attend. He expects the Congressional event to go smoother than most these days.

“I believe that quality craft beer is a bipartisan issue.”

Montgomery says Sam Bond’s sharing their Filbert Brown, Crankshaft IPA, Accelerator ISA, and a Kolsch.  He’s excited to go, and feels his interaction with his lawmakers will come full circle.

“Eleven months ago, I was walking outside my brewery to attend a Women’s March," Montgomery tells KLCC.

"And now I get to go to Washington DC and serve my beer to someone like Representative DeFazio, who I heard speak that day. And I would really like to give Senator Merkley a sample of the Filbert Brown and thank him for representing us.”

Only two other Oregon breweries will be at the Congressional tasting event: Deschutes from Bend, and Scout from Portland.
