U.S. Rep DeFazio Expresses Concern Over Roseburg VA Medical Center Decision

Roseburg VA / Facebook

The Roseburg Veterans Administration Medical Center is planning to convert their emergency department into an urgent care clinic by the end of next week. But U.S. Representative Peter DeFazio is alarmed by the quick turnaround

DeFazio sent a letter to the director of the Roseburg VA with concerns about how quickly they’re planning to convert the emergency department. He said “The decisions to cease preparations and move forward abruptly with this plan is an alarming departure from that you have communicated to veterans, my office and local media.”

DeFazio is unsure that the VA will be able to make the switch that quickly, as they’ve previously said the conversion could take months.

The Roseburg VA said in a statement they’re accelerating the process because the center doesn’t have enough staff to cover the emergency department.

DeFazio has asked the director to explain why the change was made so abruptly.
