The Oregon Department of Justice has concluded an investigation into Sunriver Police Chief Marc Mills.

The DOJ has forwarded the findings of its investigation to Deschutes County District Attorney John Hummel.

The DOJ won’t discuss the details or the reason for the investigation, but the Sunriver Service District Managing Board placed Mills on paid administrative leave in early December.

Hummel has the capacity to initiate a criminal charge if the findings warrant it. Hummel says he expects to complete his review and make a decision about charges in the first week of January.

Marc Mills has been Sunriver’s police chief since 2012 and served nearly three decades with the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office before that.

Bend Police Captain Cory Darling is serving as interim police chief in Sunriver.
