What firefighters face... multiple areas burning, often in steep terrain with heavy timber.

Wildfires continue to burn all around the region, and Oregon Governor Kate Brown visited Southern Oregon Thursday morning to check on firefighting efforts.Brown visited the command center for the Garner Complex Fires, in Merlin.  The complex of several fires in both Jackson and Josephine Counties continues to threaten structures, and evacuation advisories remain in place in areas close to the fires.

More than 2,400 firefighters are employed on the Garner Complex alone. And it is one of six major fires or groups of fires burning west of the Cascades, from Roseburg to just south of the California state line.

Fire managers warned the public to expect more fire and smoke from the complex on Wednesday night, with firefighters setting burnouts to rob the fire of fuel near containment lines.

Containment itself is still well off in the future.  The projected containment date for the Garner Complex is August 7th.
