According to the National Weather Service, areas near Portland, Eugene and Salem may break max temperature records for this time of year. Those areas are all slated to have temperatures in the 90s mid-next week.
“We just have a warm weather pattern sort of setting up over the Pacific Northwest next week with many inland sites getting near record temperatures on Tuesday and probably either tying or breaking records on Wednesday,” said Will Ahue, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Portland office.
Oregon east of the Cascades will see temperatures in the high 90s, Ahue said. Southwest Oregon could see temperatures close to 100 degrees.
With the abnormally high temperatures, there is an increased threat of wildfire.
According to the Northwest Interagency Coordination Center, there is elevated risk of fire in southwest, central and eastern regions of the state from Tuesday to Thursday.
“That is definitely something we’re looking at,” Ahue said. “We’ll be continuing to monitor that over the next couple of days.”
He said cooler weather is expected to return late in the week.
