The Cannon Beach City Council passed an ordinance Tuesday night making it illegal to feed wild animals.
The Daily Astorian reports wild animals include birds, raccoons, rabbits and others.
Residents of the coastal city have complained in recent years of rabbits damaging plants and gardens.
People could face a misdemeanor with a maximum fine of $500 if they go against the ordinance. City leaders said they will issue warnings in the first year of the ordinance to educate residents. They'll start to fine people after that.
People are still allowed to feed songbirds as long as they use a secure container that prevents access from other animals.
People can also feed wild animals if they have a valid permit issued by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.
