Live Updates: OHA Reports More Than 120 New Known Coronavirus Cases

There is currently no vaccine to prevent contracting COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus.

UPDATE (2:54 p.m. PT) — Coronavirus diagnoses continue to climb in Oregon, with health officials reporting 124 new confirmed and presumptive cases of COVID-19 on Thursday. That brings the state’s total to 7,568 known cases.

Many of those new cases are in the Portland area with 29 in Multnomah County and 24 in Washington County.

The Oregon Health Authority reported two new deaths Thursday, bringing the state’s total to 197 deaths.

OHA said both people who died were in Marion County. 

An 83-year-old woman who tested positive June 18 and died June 24 in her residence. She had underlying medical conditions.

As of Thursday, 189 people are hospitalized with suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19 across the state, including 29 who are on ventilators. Coronavirus has led to the hospitalization of 1,012 people in Oregon over the course of the pandemic.

9 new Clark County coronavirus cases

Health officials in Clark County, Washington, reported nine new coronavirus cases Thursday. That brings the county’s total to 741. Public health officials did not report any additional deaths, with the total holding at 29.

Washington Gov. Jay Inslee announced a mandatory mask order Tuesday in response to increasing case counts and the potential to overwhelm the state’s health care system. Beginning Friday, June 26, all Washingtonians are required to wear face masks in public spaces.

The Washington Department of Health reported 29,869 confirmed coronavirus cases in the state and 1,294 known deaths. As of Wednesday, coronavirus has led to the hospitalization of 4,093 people in Washington.
