10x10 Series: Mikey Moo in Concert
Introducing your music to the world with a song called “Uncomfortable Silence” might seem like an unorthodox decision but don’t let a name mislead you; it’s often in moments of silence and discomfort that the truth can be found. Such is the case with the first track and lead single off Mikey Moo’s debut album Fresh Idiot out May 31st on Killroom Records. The snaky synths and Blade Runner grit of the song are an opening salvo to a record that examines the often uneasy task of simply trying to break free.
Time lost as a closeted youth, religious indoctrination, and a rediscovery of purpose after the dissolution of a decade-plus relationship are explored candidly by Moo (the affectionate nickname of Young Evils’ guitarist Michael Lee) over ten songs of shimmering queer psych-pop. Joining him are Seattle music greats bassist/vocalist Nicki Danger (Glitterbang, Pink Parts) and Scott Helgason (Final Body, Frond, Young Evils) to create a pop sound that is all their own.
