Celebrate Eugene’s vibrant art scene during the December 1st First Friday ArtWalk! Start your self-guided tour at Farmers Market Pavilion (85 E 8th Ave), where you can pick up your ArtWalk Guide and shop the Artist Marketplace before exploring the many galleries and art venues of Downtown Eugene. Then return to the Farmers Market Pavilion to dance into the weekend with 2023’s Best Local Band, Acoustic Sugar Beets, from 6:00pm-8:00pm! The monthly First Friday ArtWalk is from 5:30pm-8:00pm and is always free.

Porthole Players Theater Company presents Roald Dahl's Matilda the Musical at the Newport Performing Arts Center. The stage musical will be performed with a live orchestra on the Alice Silverman Stage for three weekends from Nov. 17th to Dec. 3rd. Select a live performance November 17, 18, 24, 25, Dec. 1, & 2 at 7:00 p.m. OR Nov. 19, 26 & Dec. 3 at 2:00 p.m. for a Sunday matinee.

"Matilda" is a lively show based on the 1988 novel by Roald Dahl with music and lyrics by Tim Minchin and a book by Dennis Kelly. The musical's narrative centers on Matilda Wormwood, a precocious young girl who loves reading and has the gift of telekinesis. Matilda is faced with overcoming obstacles caused by her family and school, and helps Miss Honey her doting teacher, to reclaim her life. In addition, standing in Matilda’s way is the overbearing headmistress, Miss Trunchbull. Directed by Jennifer Van Bruggen Hamilton and performed by a talented cast of adults and youth.

We conclude our 2023 Shedd Theatricals season with Sheldon Harnick, Jerry Bock and Joseph Stein's heartwarming and inspiring 1964 classic tale of family, tradition, love and perseverance, Fiddler On The Roof.

Set in a village in Imperial Russia's Pale of Settlement circa 1905, the story centers on Tevye, a poor Jewish milkman and his wife Golde who struggle to preserve their family and the traditions and values of their faith in the social turmoil of late Imperial Russia. Rich in historical and ethnic detail, Fiddler on the Roof's universal theme of tradition cuts across barriers of race, class, nationality and religion.

Written by Joseph Stein and featuring an unforgettable score by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick, Fiddler On The Roof is filled with deep emotion, touching humor, and beautiful, inspiring and heartwarming songs impossible to forget: "Tradition", "Sunrise, Sunset", "If I Were A Rich Man", "Matchmaker, Matchmaker", "Do You Love Me?", "To Life", and "Far From The Home I Love".

Performances continue every weekend through Dec. 10, with Sunday matinees.

The stories hit hard, because we know we may not be far off from them ourselves in this time of uncertainty. There’s a sense of hope too, the kind of hope that Martin instilled in his students, encouraging them to follow their dreams no matter the cost. It’s this hope that in turn inspired him to leave his teaching to become a full-time musician, for how could he encourage this in his students if he wasn’t willing to do it himself? Now that he’s left the day job behind, Jeffrey Martin tours hard, and he’s become known on the West Coast Americana scene as a kind of songwriter’s songwriter, a writer that other artists turn to for inspiration.
