Fundraising Concert for 3rd Annual New Music Festival September 13 at 7pm
September 13th hear and see Eugene Difficult Music Ensemble perform works by Pauline Oliveros, Chin Ting Chan, M.A. Tiesenga, EDME, Todd Kovell, & William Bolles-Beaven. Some of these are seasoned classics from the EDME repertoire. Others are works that will be part of our Third Annual New Music Festival happening in October. All of them are exceptional and lovely and curious!
This is a fundraiser, so along with the music there will be a few requests for money. The show is free, but we are suggesting a $15 donation for those who can afford it. Your presence is what is truly of value, never skip a show for lack of funds!
This fundraising concert will be a glimpse into the delicious madness that will be our Third Annual New Music Festival in October. It will be a celebration of composed sound works, with a special focus on those that push composition’s boundaries. EDME's executive director, JP Lempke, describes New Music, the genre we identify with, as "a catch-all term for sounds that are composer-driven, encompassing experimental, improvised, electronic, chamber, and symphonic musics. It is contemporary classical, but without the inherent contradiction embedded in that phrase.”
The scores we perform explore the visions and sounds of young artists writing music today, compositions profoundly engaged with the world as we live it now, post-pandemic, climate changed, and culturally embattled. “Our concerts feature works designed for the ensemble members’ principal instruments, including everything from quiet sonic landscapes to exploratory performance art,” says Lempke.
