Living a writers life comes with challenges–uncertainty, isolation, and loneliness to name just a few. What does it mean to have a writers life? How do you make a life–and a living–as a writer?

At our quarterly Writers Life Lunches, you’ll connect with other writers, get the answers to these questions, as well as figure out what it means to be a writer and how to make the life of one work for you.

We don’t talk enough about the business of being a writer. What it means to make a living–whether part-time or full-time–with the words you produce. No matter the genre you write in–journalism, poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, or crossword puzzles–you need community to keep you going strong.

The writing life is often full of mystery. How do you get an agent, understand a book deal, send your writing out on submission, get a writing fellowship, and market your work?

At Writers Life Lunches, we’ll shine a light on the writing life, exposing its secrets and illuminating a path forward.

Each quarter, we’ll focus on a different topic related to the vocation of being a writer, such as:
-Literary agents: what they do and how to find one that’s right for you.
-Publishing paths: Traditional or indie/self–the ins and outs, the pros and cons, of each.
-Writing residencies, grants, and fellowships: how to find them and get them.
-Social media marketing: leveraging what you already like to do online to advance your writing career.
-Sending yourself out on submission: how to find the markets that are right for you.

No matter what wall you’re running into in your life as a working writer, there’s someone else who’s hit it, too, and found a way over, around, or through it.

Guided by Wordcrafters’ Jeaux Bartlett, a professional writer with more than two decades of experience, we’ll find solutions–and camaraderie–to help you continue on with your chosen vocation of putting words on the page.

What you can expect at Writers Life Lunches:
-Arrive at noon
-Bring your lunch or order take-away from one of the delicious local restaurants nearby
-Settle in and get comfy and begin to munch your lunch
-Go around the table and briefly introduce yourself, mentioning something working well in your writing life (a rose) and something a bit ouchy or hard (a thorn)
-Delve into the quarter’s juicy topic guided by Wordcrafters’ Jeaux Bartlett
-Make connections with your writing peers, learn something new, and leave with your belly and heart both full

About your host
Jeaux Bartlett (they/them or xe/xem) is a writer and teacher living in Eugene, Oregon. Jeaux has published several books and online courses focused on personal growth and their work has appeared in the Register Guard, Lane Monthly, Rochester insider, Crossroads Chronicle, and Nature’s Wisdom amongst other publications.

Jeaux is a certified Grief Recovery Method specialist, a National Spiritualist Teacher, and a Reiki Master Teacher. Jeaux enjoys writing about overcoming loss and adversity, and learning to trust yourself again.

Jeaux is currently working on Banned in Barbados, an autofiction novel based on their middle school years at an all-girls convent school in Barbados. When they are not writing, Jeaux enjoys playing with natural dyes, knitting, and building a writing camp in the woods.
