Eugene Police Auditor Mark Gissiner will retire at the end of January. Gissiner has served in the position for 12 years.

During his tenure, as an independent auditor, he worked on guidelines related to the use of Tasers and body-worn cameras. He told KLCC he’s most proud of helping change the culture of policing in the city.

“So many oversight agencies, I think they’re all just worried about holding individual officers accountable," Gissiner said.

"Which is very important for what we do, but that really calls for holding leadership accountable and outlining what your expectations are for leadership in an organization.”

Gissiner said he’d like to see more trust building with the community and changes to public record laws. Of his retirement, he said he’s looking forward to spending more time with his family and focusing on his health.
