Benton County has appointed an interim sheriff to fill the remainder of Sheriff Scott Jackson’s current term.
Commissioners selected Jefri Van Arsdall, who is the current undersheriff of Baker County in eastern Oregon. Van Arsdall will serve until a new Benton County sheriff is chosen by voters in November of 2022. Jackson is retiring February 1st after 25 years with the Benton County sheriff’s office.
Before his stint in Baker County, Van Arsdall worked for more than a decade as an officer with the Corvallis Police Department. County commissioners cited that experience in announcing Van Arsdall's hire.
