EPD Makes Arrest In Bias Crime Where The Victim, A Black Man, Was Stabbed

The Eugene Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit arrested a suspect Tuesday for a bias crime and assault that left the victim with a severe stab wound.

The incident occured in the afternoon of Aug. 31 on West 11th and Grant St. in Eugene.

According to a release from EPD, Marcus Crowe of Eugene was arrested by detectives following an investigation into reports Crowe, and an adult female known to him, yelled racially offensive and derogatory terms before assaulting the victim, an African American male, who had asked them to stop. 

The victim sustained a severe stab wound after a "sharpened metal pole or spear-like object was thrown at him." The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.

 

Crowe has been charged with Assault in the Second Degree and Bias Crime in the Second Degree. 

EPD is asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to call Detective J. Baugh at 541-682-5292.
