Wildfire Smoke Air Quality Alert For Douglas County, Klamath Basin

The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has issued an Air Quality Alert for areas around the Bootleg and Jack fires.

This includes Central Douglas county, the Eastern Douglas County foothills, Jackson County, and the Klamath Basin.

The Air Quality Alert is in effect until Monday morning.

The DEQ says wildfire smoke is especially harmful for infants, young children, people with heart or lung disease, older adults, and pregnant women. Staying indoors with the doors and windows closed and avoiding strenuous outdoor activity is the best way to avoid the harmful effects of smoke. Using high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters in indoor ventilation systems or portable air purifiers can help improve indoor air quality.

Officials say smoke levels can change rapidly depending on the weather. To check current conditions, visit the Oregon Smoke Information blog, the DEQ Air Quality Index, or download the OregonAir app for smartphones.
