Bend's Urban Growth Boundary Remand Project To Be More Transparent

www.bend.or/us

In response to steady growth since the 90's, the City of Bend undertook a project to create 20-year supplies of land for residential and economic development. The Urban Growth Boundary Remand includes a future plan for the city's critical infrastructure. Upgrading the sewer system and working with the expansion of Oregon State University's Cascades campus are part of UGB's implementation. Brian Rankin is the Principle Planner for Bend. He says the last UGB effort included some public input.

Rankin: "This time we're going through it, much more public involvement. Focus on advisory committees that are diverse so that the final product reflects the values of Bend and also different check-in points with the general public through online engagement tools, open houses, workshops, and presentations. So, public involvement is key to the success of the project."

Three committees have been formed to tackle residential, employment, and evaluating UGB expansion in Bend. Public meetings are being held Monday (today) and Tuesday.

New TAC Member orientation - Tuesday, July 29, 2014 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm – an orientation meeting is being held for new TAC members in the Community Room of the Bend Metro Parks and Recreation District (799 SW Columbia Street)

Residential TAC Meeting - Monday, August 4, 2014 from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm in the Bend City Hall Council Chambers (710 NW Wall Street).  This committee will begin work on the residential lands and housing related remand work.

Employment TAC Meeting - Monday, August 4, 2014 from 2:30 pm to 5:00 pm in the Bend City Hall Council Chambers (710 NW Wall Street).  This committee will begin work on the employment lands related remand work.
