KLCC Wins First National Edward R. Murrow Award

KLCC has won Excellence in Writing for three scripts submitted to the annual Murrows contest organized by the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA).

The submission contained reports by reporter Brian Bull on the March for Our Lives event in Eugene,  the cash-to-smash business “Demolition Zone”, and  how Bend, Oregon became home to the last Blockbuster Video store in America.

The compilation was chosen out of 14 regions as the national winner for Small Market Radio.

“I’m delighted to be honored with this award,” says Bull.  “I not only thank the RTDNA for their gracious consideration of my work, but also the entire KLCC news staff for their editorial guidance, support, and daily inspiration to do my best.”

The Murrow Awards are the embodiment of the values, principles, and standards set forth by Edward R. Murrow, a journalism pioneer who set the standards for the highest quality of broadcast journalism.  Of the awards given to journalists, the Murrow Awards are among the most respected journalism awards in the world.

"The vivid, compelling quality of Brian Bull’s work sets the standard for KLCC News and we’re proud to see him earn national recognition," says KLCC General Manager Jim Rondeau. "This dedication to high caliber journalism jumps out of the speakers and is among the reasons Oregonians keep coming back to KLCC."

KLCC News Director Rachael McDonald added, "Brian's work is always high quality. He approaches each story with curiosity, focus, and an ear for good sound. His writing is clear, concise and thoughtful and brings the story to life for the listener."

This is the first time KLCC has won a national Murrow.  It is the fourth national Murrow for Bull, and the fourteenth altogether in his 23-year career.

Earlier this year, KLCC won regional Murrows for Newscast (with Love Cross) and Overall Excellence.

KLCC is exceptionally proud of its award-winning News Team!!
