New Long Term Housing Facility For Veterans Dedication Saturday In Lebanon

Albany Democrat-Herald

A new long-term care home in Lebanon for Veterans is finished and will be dedicated, Saturday. The facility can house up to 154 residents and is named after a World War I Medal of Honor recipient from Corvallis.

The 40 million dollar facility broke ground in 2012 and focuses on rehabilitation services and long term care for veterans with dementia or Alzheimer’s. Oregon Department of Veterans Affairs Spokesman Jeremy Woodall is proud of the building.

Woodall: “We believe that this will be some of the highest quality care available to our honored veterans and our sister location in The Dalles has just recently received a gold star award for their service, and that type of service is being available to our veterans at this location as well.”

The house is named after Captain Edward Allworth, who led his troops across a canal under machine gun fire and captured 100 prisoners, whose number exceeded those in his command. The building is being dedicated Saturday with Oregon Senator Ron Wyden, Representative Peter DeFazio, and Lebanon Mayor Paul Aziz participating in the ceremonies.

The Edward Allworth Veterans Home dedication is Saturday at 11 AM at 600 North 5th Street in Lebanon.
