The oldest living Pacific harbor seal is turning 50. Skinny is a longtime resident of the Oregon Coast Aquarium. There will be a public celebration at the aquarium on June 3rd.
It will feature seal-themed activities, raffles, presentations and special enrichment sessions.
In a news release, the aquarium says Skinny's longevity reflects her status as a survivor.
As a pup, Skinny was found stranded on a beach in Washington in 1975.
She was temporarily housed at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium in Tacoma, Washington.
She moved to the Oregon Coast Aquarium in 1992, just before its grand opening.
Skinny is a fan favorite at the aquarium.
“Earning Skinny’s trust, watching her progress, and growing with her has been a highlight of my career,” said Brittany Blades, OCAq Curator of Marine Mammals. “It’s truly been an honor.”
