A video game studio in Bend laid off around 30% of its workforce this week, the Bend Bulletin reported Wednesday.
Sony Interactive told the newspaper it had chosen to make cuts to Bend Studio, the developer behind the major game title “Days Gone.”
The cuts follow January, when Sony told Bloomberg News it had cancelled another project that the Bend developer was working on. Bloomberg now estimates that roughly 40 employees have been let go.
In a statement on its Facebook page, Bend Studio said it deeply appreciated the people who were leaving, saying they helped shape the company.
“This is a difficult moment for our team, but we hold immense respect for everyone who got us here,” the studio wrote. “As we move forward, we remain committed to building the future of Bend Studio with creativity, passion, and innovation in the titles we craft.”
In recent years, the gaming industry has seen a series of massive layoffs, despite generating over $180 million last year.
