Gomez: Blues, Pop and Rock Collide

Gomez in Studio on World Cafe - 09/08/2006

Gomez's infectious blend of bluesy wails, pop-rock harmonies and airtight songwriting has won the band critical acclaim and commercial success, making it one of the biggest and best U.K. bands to emerge in recent years. Winner of the 1998 Mercury Music Prize for Best Album, beating out the more established likes of Massive Attack and The Verve, the group has gone on to get tighter and more confident while slowly building its U.S. fan base.

For its fifth studio album, How We Operate, Gomez again honed its songwriting, stripping away unnecessary elements and putting its seemingly effortless knack for pop melodies at the forefront of its sound. Combining a willingness to rock noisily with more delicate inclinations, How We Operate is Gomez's most intelligent and accessible album yet. This segment originally aired on Sept. 8. 2006.
