Don't Jump The Fence. The Park Will Open Soon.

skateandannoy.com

Skateboarders in Eugene can barely wait to use the new skatepark under the Washington-Jefferson bridge. It’s scheduled to officially open in June, but some have already been testing it out.

The concrete is poured, the rails are up, and the major contractors are done. But that doesn’t mean the park is ready to ride. Emily Proudfoot is a landscape architect for the City of Eugene. She says even though they turn off the lights at night, people have been jumping the fence.

Proudfoot: “It’s not great to go into the skate park, it looks like it’s finished. It basically is finished, but we need to, you know, really judge it to be safe for park users before we take down the gate. As soon as we know that all those things and all those boxes are checked, we will take down the fence and let people ride.”

Proudfoot thinks people will be allowed to use the park sometime in April. The grand opening, June 21st, is on National Go Skate Day. Activities will include lessons, competitions, and art unveiling.
