The Archie Creek Fire in Douglas County east of Roseburg is now at 115, 857 acres and is 0% contained as of Friday afternoon. Officials say the fire is currently burning in the North Umpqua drainage on the west slope of the Cascades.
Fire managers with the Northwest Incident Management team said they are working with local fire departments on structural protection and fire line construction on the west and southwest sides of the fire. Officials added local timber companies have aided in efforts as well.
"One of the key resources that we're using that's helping us do that is the local timber companies are working with us on a daily basis and helping provide heavy equipment that's very effective in this vegetation to contain the fire," said Incident commander Brian Goff during a briefing Friday.
He said the majority of the fire resources on Friday would go toward fighting the fire in the areas around Glide.
“This fire has been moving to the west, we’ve concentrated our efforts along this western flank to help protect the communities and infrastructure and private lands that are further to the west,” Goff said.
