City of Eugene Extends Streatery Program

City of Eugene

The City of Eugene has extended their Streatery Program through next April. The program started in June to help businesses increase dining capacity by offering no-fee permits to use the public right of way for added space.

Around 2 dozen eateries and brewpubs have participated in the program with some setting up tables on sidewalks.

Anne Fifield with the city says initially the city didn’t know the pandemic would last this long when set the program to expire at the end of October. But, now they recognize the need to keep the program going during the winter.

“I think almost all of the restaurants participating are local, independently owned restaurants and they really help sort of define the face of what you see in Eugene," Fiefield said. "We want these restaurants to survive and we want them to still be here in April when the weather turns good again.”

Businesses will need to apply for the new permit that ends on April 29. As for temporary structures to provide cover for patrons, Fifield told KLCC the city is still working on a plan.
