After a sluggish start, No. 4 Oregon beat Stony Brook 48-7 Saturday in Eugene.
Stony Brook kept it close through two quarters of play with Oregon up 17-7 heading in to halftime. The Ducks went on to score 31 unanswered points in the second half.
Ducks starter Anthony Brown threw for a touchdown and ran for another in the first half. After ending the second quarter with two sacks, Brown did not come out of the locker room after the half; it was unclear if he was injured. Brown was initially replaced by true freshman Ty Thompson after the half, until fellow true freshman Jay Butterfield finished out as quarterback for the Ducks.
Brown was 14-of-18 for 159 yards with touchdowns passing and rushing in the first half, and in his collegiate debut, Thompson finished 6-of-9 for 82 yards with two TDs. Travis Dye had 87 rushing yards and a TD, and Noah Sewell had 10 tackles to lead the UO defense.
Kickoff for Saturday’s game was pushed back by 30 minutes after Autzen Stadium was inundated with downpours and lightning leading up to the scheduled 4:30 start time.
The Ducks improved to 3-0 as they head into Pac-12 play next weekend.
Oregon moved up in the AP and Coaches Polls to No. 4 last week after their 35-28 win over then No. 3 Ohio State in Week 2. This is the highest ranking for the Ducks since 2014 when they were ranked No. 2, led by Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota.
The other Pac-12 teams in the top 25 are No. 13 UCLA (2-1) and No. 19 Arizona State (2-1). UCLA was upset by Fresno State Saturday. Arizona State lost to No. 22 BYU.
