It was all Ducks on Monday night in what was billed to be one of their toughest battles so far this season. Ruthy Hebard had 22 points and 12 rebounds to help No. 3 Oregon beat fourth-ranked Connecticut 74-56, handing the Huskies their first loss on campus in seven years.
Sabrina Ionescu added 10 points, nine rebounds and nine assists for the Ducks (20-2) in the much-anticipated matchup in front of a sellout crowd. UConn (19-2) plays home games in two locations- they hadn't lost on campus at Gampel Pavilion since 2013. It was UConn's worst home loss since 2005.
The Huskies scored first in the game, but the Ducks went on a 10-0 run after that, and never looked back. Oregon was up 44-31 at the half.
The Ducks are back at home this weekend for Pac-12 play with two top 20 contests. They host No. 12 Arizona Friday night and No. 19 Arizona State on Sunday. Arizona State defeated Oregon in January, handing the Ducks their only Pac-12 loss of the season.
Also on Monday, the NCAA provided its first snapshot of the top 16 teams in the tournament field. Oregon along with South Carolina, Baylor and Louisville would be the four top seeds if the women's NCAA tournament began this week.
The NCAA says those schools would potentially host the opening two rounds of the NCAA tournament, which begins March 20. The initial reveal has five Pac-12 teams hosting the opening two rounds.
The committee will do one more top 16 reveal on March 2. The bracket will be unveiled on March 16.
