Fire Officials Ask Public To Do Their Part In Fire Prevention

Brian Bull/KLCC News

Fire officials are warning the public to take extra care over the next few days to not add to extreme fire danger brought on by high temperatures and forecast lightning.

Oregon State Fire Marshal Mariana Ruiz-Temple said the next 72 hours will be critical. She said fire prevention will help both firefighters and their communities.

“We as the general public are probably the number one helper in this, we have a role in this, and when 75 percent of fires are started are human caused that we pay extra attention to our prevention methods to what we’re doing and help support the overall system," she said.

Ruiz-Temple said resources are at reduced capacity and it’s crucial that fires are kept small or are prevented. Officials are predicting lighting will cause more fires to crop up over the weekend.
