Lane East Asian Network Hosts Rally In Downtown Eugene

Aubrey Bulkeley

Approximately 100 people gathered at the federal courthouse in downtown Eugene Sunday to speak out against racism towards Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.

The rally, organized by Lane East Asian Network, was in response to the Atlanta spa shootings last week which killed eight people, six of whom were of Asian descent.

For over an hour, members of the East Asian community spoke about their experiences with racism.

Father of two, Chewy Jin, shared why he attended the rally.

“Our kids when they go to school, they were insulted by language like, ‘go back to China’. We have to stand up. This is why we organized this event," Said Jin. "We organized this event not for myself, not for any particular person, we organized this for our next generation.”

The Asian American Council of Oregon will hold a candlelight remembrance for the Atlanta shooting victims at 6 pm, Sunday, March 21 at Wayne Morse Free Speech Plaza in downtown Eugene.
