The state of Oregon is distributing personal protection equipment to agricultural workers this week.
Nearly one million KN95 masks will be available, along with five-thousand gallons of hand sanitizer. Distribution takes place Wednesday and Thursday and will be free for farmworkers and agricultural producers. According to the Oregon Department of Agriculture, KN95 masks can help slow the spread of COVID-19. They’re not meant to be used in a medical setting.
Some advocates say farmworkers are particularly vulnerable to the coronavirus because of living quarters and working conditions that can lead to the virus’ spread. Oregon OSHA will start enforcing temporary rules next month that are designed to increase sanitation and social distancing at labor intensive farm operations.
