It was another full house at sold out Matthew Knight Arena on Sunday, and another Duck win as No. 3 Oregon defeated No.19 Arizona State, 79-48, in front of 12,364 fans.
The Ducks came into the game on a 9-game winning streak, looking for redemption against the Sun Devils (16-8) who handed the Ducks their only Pac-12 loss of the season in Tempe in January. And even though it was a slow start for both teams, redemption is just what they got.
After 4 minutes without a score, Arizona State finally connected on a jump shot. After Oregon's Satou Sabally tied it up on the next possession, the Ducks were off and running.
At the end of the first quarter, the Ducks were up 10-2, and Arizona State's shooting percentage was a miserable 10%. ASU's next score didn't come for nearly 4 minutes into the second quarter. At the half the Ducks were up 27-15. By the end of the third, the Ducks had extended their lead to 27 points.
Five Duck players had double digit scoring in the win. Oregon's Satou Sabally had her third straight double-double- and sixth of the season- with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Sabrina Ionescu led Oregon's scoring with 19 points, Erin Boley and Jazz Shelley each had 14, while Ruthy Hebard contributed 11. Mignon Moore had 6 steals in the game.
The Pac-12 leading Ducks (22-2) remain perfect at home this season at 13-0; now 47-2 in Matthew Knight Arena over the last three seasons. It was the Ducks' ninth straight home game with at least 10,000 fans, and fifth this year with 11,000 or more.
The Ducks go on back-to-back road trips to California. They face a tough No.10 UCLA on Friday, and USC on Sunday. Then the Ducks head back to California to take on Cal on Feb. 21 and Stanford Feb. 24, before returning home to host the Washington teams the following weekend.
